Not What I Expected

Today brought a bit of a surprise. I was sitting at my desk in an attempt to organize my life when there was a rumble. Now, I've learned in the short two weeks that I've been here that Virginia has rumbles of thunder rather frequently. Well, this was not just a sound. It was movement too.

California girl that I am, my first instinct was to think, "Is this an earthquake?" And then, "Do they have earthquakes here?" Quickly, I moved down the hall to check on the girls. They were playing in their room, seemingly oblivious to the noise and movement that I had noticed. Was I going crazy or what?

Well, it turns out that I am not crazy. I actually experienced an earthquake in Virginia! After going for years without feeling one in California, I felt one here within two weeks of my arrival. Go figure. It was not something that I ever expected to have happen here. Inclement weather? Yes. Earthquakes? Definitely not. I guess I need to review earthquake safety with my girls even here in Virginia.
