My New Kitchen, In Progress

A few years ago, Brett and I spent the summer remodeling our kitchen. We took it from this...

to this.

Oh, did I love that kitchen. Still do. And, boy oh boy, do I miss it!

This is my new kitchen.

Although there are many wonderful things about our new home in Virginia, the kitchen is NOT one of those things. The past week has been a challenge for me in the kitchen. The dearth of counterspace has been driving me nuts! There is very little space to prep food or serve up the food. And the actual cooking? Let's just say that I have not mastered the art of cooking on an electric stove. The pots always seem to boil over.

Although the kitchen is not perfect, I'm determined to do what I can to make it a more pleasurable experience to use it. After staring at the kitchen boxes piled up in the dining room for the past week, I decided it was time to remedy the situation and start organizing it. Before my arrival in Virginia, my mother-in-law Bonnie and my sister-in-law Dawn cleaned the cabinets, lined the shelves and unpacked some of the necessities. I am so thankful for their help. But when I realized just how many kitchen boxes remained, I knew that there was still a lot for me to do, and well, I procrastinated.

So, today I am moving things to different cupboards and finding new homes for all the things that have still been in boxes. To help fix the counterspace issue, I picked up this kitchen island yesterday from Walmart. Hopefully, I'll have a chance to put it together this afternoon. I just hope that all of the pieces are in good shape. That thing was a bear to get into the car on my own...I really don't want to have to return it!

Wish me luck! I really want to get the kitchen straightened out in the next day or two. I'll be sure to post some pictures when it is done.
