Mother's Day Tea 2010

Just before Father's Day, I wanted to post FINALLY about Mother's Day...particularly about my special Mother's Day Tea with Ella. At her preschool, it is a tradition to invite moms to come to class to celebrate us. I enjoyed last year's tea and really was looking forward to this one as well. The children work diligently to make special presents for us in the weeks before the big day and plan a very special morning.

The party began with the kids serenading us with several songs. Their favorite was a pirate song:
Yo ho, yo ho, the Christian life for me.
Be present at our table Lord. Be here and everywhere, Oh Lord.
These morsels bless and grant that we may feast in paradise with thee.
Yo ho, yo ho, the Christian life for me.

Then, they served us some tasty treats. This year, our Mother's Day Tea was especially fancy...Ella's teacher Mrs. Hollingsworth just also happens to be an event planner. The room was absolutely beautiful, and the cakes were delightful. Ella's favorite was actually the coconut cake which took me by surprise.

Then, Ella gave me a drawing that she made of me. Those red things aren't earrings as I thought. Rather, they are arm floaties because I'm at the beach apparently. Her responses to questions about me that accompanied the drawing were particularly entertaining as well.
  • My mom's name is Janel.
  • She is 32 years old. Her favorite color is she likes them all.
  • She likes to watch Brian Regan.
  • She never likes to eat lemons.
  • When I am at school my mom goes to Meli's house or works at home.
  • I like to clean up the house while singing with my mom.

Of course, no Mother's Day Tea is complete without a Mother's Day gift. This year Ella made a seashell magnet and an adorable beanbag compete with her photograph on one side and handprint on the other. Because the teacher's aide Mrs. Velazquez also provides childcare for both Lucie and Ella at the church for various events, she managed to have Lucie make one for me as well! It was so thoughtful and so cute.

It really was a special day, and I'm so thankful for a wonderful preschool staff who work so hard with our children to make the day special for us moms.
