Friday Funnies - Business Time

A few months ago, my sister-in-law sent my husband a link to a YouTube video. It's a live version of a song called "Business Time" by Flight of the Conchords (you can play it above). They describe themselves as New Zealand's fourth most popular digi -folk paradists...and they are pretty darn funny. Their music is catchy and their lyrics are oftentimes hilarious. Apparently they have a show on HBO but I've never seen it (or heard of it until now) because we don't have cable. Anyway, with this particular song, the subject is really for adults only (suffice it to say that it's about "business" in the bedroom), but the chorus is rather benign and catchy -- just "It's business, it's business time!"

The other day, Brett was working on the computer in our room and Ella decided that she wanted to play in there. So, she pulled her little Rose Petal Cottage table and chairs into the room along with some paper and colored pencils and got to "work". Brett started singing the chorus of the song to himself and sure enough, Ella soon began to copy him. Okay, this is NOT a song that I want my daughter to be singing! But, she DOES have a total child's view of it...she said to him something like, "Dad, you do your business on the computer and I'll do my business right here." It was just too funny. From now on though, I think we need to be careful about exactly what we sing around here...even if it IS just the chorus!

But just as a warning, there is another version of "Business Time" (from their show, I think) that is more like a music video...and to me it's much more objectionable and not as funny. Toot Toot Chugga Chugga

Lucie is now in a phase where she demands a bit more attention. Actually, sometimes it seems like she wants constant attention. Unfortunately, that is something that I just can't give to her all of the time. So, I confess, I've turned to the DVD and the VCR. When she was not mobile, I'd pop her in her bouncy seat and let her watch the Brainy Baby French DVD. She used to really enjoy that and it gave me a chance to take a shower. 

Now, she is mobile and won't sit in the bouncy seat without fussing. And, I think that the French DVD has lost its charm a bit for her. So, I recently turned to something with a bit more music hoping that it would catch her attention. We have an old VHS of  "Toot Toot Chugga Chugga Big Red Car" by The Wiggles. She LOVES this video...and it gives me a good 45 minutes to do something else without her hanging on me. When I first put it on, it's the best! She starts to "dance" and does this incredibly cute shoulder shake. Here's a little video for your enjoyment.

On a side note, I think DVD's by The Wiggles could be a highly effective weight loss program for mommies. The choreography isn't anything very difficult...but it does keep The Wiggles in constant motion. The former dancer in me has actually tried to follow along with The Wiggles, but I can't make it through one song. I'm winded halfway through! I think I'm seriously lacking in stamina.

Tax Day Comic Relief

For those of you who are frustrated or stressed out with filing your taxes, perhaps this video will bring you a little comic relief. Piston Legs

The other night, Ella was settled into bed but Lucie was as awake as ever. Brett and I were watching Sense and Sensibility because he needed to find some scenes to show in class. So, Brett let Lucie join us and set her on the floor with a pillow. All of a sudden, she started getting very active -- smiling and moving her legs like crazy. Brett couldn't get over how she was moving them and called her "Piston Legs". I thought my Dad would appreciate that -- it was one of his childhood nicknames! Perhaps she DOES have the Getskow running gene as I suspected she might back in July.

She looked so cute, I tried to get some video. The audio isn't great because of all the background noise, but I thought those of you who haven't seen Lucie in action might like to see a video. Enjoy!
